This 207-room boutique hotel, with minimalist interiors by Anda Andrei and Space Copenhagen, has carved out a niche for itself in what it calls “conscious hospitality.” At 11 Howard, the art and furnishings are the result of direct collaborations, the minibar offerings are sustainably sourced, and a portion of every booking is redirected to the Global Poverty Project. The pared-back rooms here (which include only “the essentials of hospitality”) feature light-oak floors, bamboo rugs, and wall sculptures by Taiwanese artist Katie Yang; the bathrooms are restrained studies of marble and brass. In addition to a French restaurant, Le Coucou, directed by chefs Stephen Starr and Daniel Rose, there’s a multipurpose space known as The Library, where guests are free to work, socialize, sip cocktails, or marvel at original photos by Hiroshi Sugimoto on the walls.
