Launched in 2014 as a response to the aggressive, androcentric marketing of mainstream activewear companies, Outdoor Voices (referred to as “OV” by customers) is a minimalist athleisure brand for men and women that, according to founder Tyler Haney, “frees fitness from performance, and embraces activity with ease, humor, and delight.” In OV’s pared-back SoHo store, designed by Will Fox and Larry McGuire of McGuire Moorman Hospitality, white walls and unvarnished-wood accents reign supreme—a fitting backdrop for the neutral-toned tees, jackets, sweatpants, and leggings that have earned Outdoor Voices a budding cult status. Part of Haney’s mission is to initiate community engagement, so ask for a list of the store’s upcoming events. Past ones have included dog walks as well as group runs and hikes.
