Tucked away in a quiet corner on Hudson Square, Café Altro Paradiso is the Italian-focused venture of Ignacio Mattos and Scott Carter, the tireless duo behind Estela, on Houston Street. The interior, designed by the industrial-minded architect David M. Sullivan, is a marvel in and of itself: a sun-soaked, high-ceilinged dining room with white-oak floors, Carrara-marble countertops, and custom pendant fixtures echoing those of a 1930s Sicilian post office. It sets an escapist mood that, as Mattos has said, encourages guests to “linger,” and that’s just what they do at Café Altro Paradiso, whose focuses are an all-day menu of shareworthy plates (don’t miss the Waygu burger with caramelized radicchio, Gorgonzola, and patate fritte) and an international cache of wines.
