King’s glossy bright-green edifice (quite conspicuous on this residential street) hints at what’s served inside: a market-fresh, locally minded, ever-changing menu of refined-rustic fare, inspired by the culinary traditions of Southern Italy and France. A team effort by Annie Shi, who runs the front of house, and British-born chefs Clare de Boer and Jess Shadbolt, who earned their stripes at London’s River Café, newcomer King has the summery verve of a generations-old seaside restaurant in one of the countries that sway the simple but ambitious plates (poached ox tongue, rabbit-and-sage saltimbocca, chargrilled lombatello over rosemary branches). Sip an aromatic cocktail in the popular bar area before settling down in the bay-windowed, white-brick-walled, white-tableclothed dining room, conceived by the purist eye of Chef de Boer’s mother.
